* Congratulations to all of those students who participated in science fair today!! Our plans changed a bit today as we had several members of our class in the gym for the science fair :) We started our morning with morning work and then we had an in-classroom gym classroom where we played silent soccer and had a few hackey sack circles. Afterwards, we read a few pages in a chapter called Riddles in the Dark. Ask me what has happened so far as Bilbo has found himself alone in the goblin's cave. For computers today, students played various typing games, spend 15 minutes on duolingo and then finished our rough drafts of our self portraits in our visual journals. Next we will seek some peer feedback and attempt to create an improved version with that feedback. After lunch, we had a few minutes of DEAR, music and then buddies to finish up the day! Have a great night everyone! FYI:

We also typed a paragraph in the body of the email to tell why it was important. - Devon and Zayne After lunch, the grade 3s worked on their labs "Rain Causes Erosion" and "Plants Can Break Rock" while the grade 4's completed some research on the rotten truth about garbage. FYI: *Fun lunch dates: Feb. 8th and 23rd :) Homework: Read for 20-30 minutes We started our morning with a desk clean-out and then reviewed some of the tools we would be exploring in our circus unit that began today! Ask me about the centers I tried today :) After returning from gym, we had a quick snack and then attempted to read a bit from The Hobbit but needed to take a break as students were forgetting our rules on the carpet. We did return to the activity after recess and everyone did a MUCH better job of being responsible for themselves. Before recess started, we read an email from Ms. Gray which outlined some questions to think about while we engaged in a short writing challenge that related to our time at the curiosity case last week. Once recess was over, we read a couple of pages from The Hobbit and students completed a short reading response as they predicted what might occur now that Bilbo, Gandalf and the dwarves had moved into a sheltered cave to wait out a storm. Ask me what I thought and any connections I was able to make. We finished our morning with another social presentation :) After lunch, the grade 4s made their final observations of the mold garden and the growing mold stations as the grade 3s signed out their laptops and practiced some typing skills. Next they had music and then we returned to the classroom to spend about 20 minutes on duolingo for French. Finally, the students logged into their google accounts and typed their scary story beginnings onto a google doc and were able to share their progress with me! Overall it was a pretty great day :) See everyone tomorrow! FYI:
Happy Birthday to Aiden (Sunday) and Rhiannon (today)!! Little Caesar's fun lunch tomorrow! Homework: Read for at least 20-30 minutes a day *Joey, Callahan, Ahmad, Kallie and Logan please use Raz Kids (teacher's name: aheagy password: your name) Sorry there was no blog yesterday- we will try to cover both days today! Today we started our day with a journal activity where we invited Ms. Gray to work with us! We went to the Curiosity Case where we looked at a biofact and an artifact. Ask me what the difference is between the two! - Aiden, Jacob and Ahmad. Next we chose one of the two items that we were interested in and did a zoom in sketch of that item. Next we used words to describe and label the parts that were hard to draw. - Aiden When we came back from our journal session, we had a small snack and read a bit of The Hobbit. Bilbo was hiding in the trees and the trolls were able to trap him. The other dwarves came for Bilbo and the trolls put them in sacks and were arguing about how they would eat them. -Emerson, Devon, Kallie and Joey Next we went out for recess and then we came in and worked on our visual journal entry pages for The Hobbit. We talked about some of the criteria for our journal entries, for example, ensuring we talk about how the characters change over the story and choosing quotes from the book that indicates something important has happened. Afterwards, we played Just Dance for Phys. Ed. and played a quick game before the bell rang for lunch. After lunch, we had DEAR and then the grade 4 students made observations on the mold garden and the growing mold labs while the grade 3's used an interactive site to learn a few facts about rocks and minerals. The grade 3's have two labs to observe as well, one that examines plants can break rocks and the other looks at how rain causes erosion! We had Power Hour for the last hour of day...here are a few quotes from the students. - Power hour only lasted for one hour, it flew by fast- Emerson - In power, my friend and I drew really pretty outfits for our mannequins- Kallie - In computer programming we got to remember a picture for computer programming. Corbin - In my power hour, strategic games, we did the name game where everyone got to choose something that rhymed with their name. You got to call out your name and my name was Wyatt the non-quiet TNT. Wyatt M. - My power hour, Theatre Sports, was really calm. Wyatt S. FYI:

Rhiannon Our favorite song was The Monster - Ray Afterwards, we read a few pages of The Hobbit. We know there are 13 dwarves that have come into Bilbo's house to go on a journey.
