Happy Birthday Wyatt M!! Thank you for the yummy cupcakes!
Student of the Week: FYI: *Halloween celebrations on Monday! Please email our classroom coordinator (or room mom :) ) with any treat you would like to bring in so we do not have duplicates. Students are able to wear their costumes all day. Homework: Read for at least 20 minutes everyday and enjoy time with your families! Today we started the day with Phys. Ed and then had music. Afterwards we had computers where we practiced our typing skills before continuing with our independent research projects. Next we read a bit of Wonder before starting a small card making craft! Have a great weekend! Happy Birthday Karolina!!
FYI: Reminder: Students will be able to wear their Halloween costumes all day on Monday, Oct. 31st! Students are allowed to wear masks but are not permitted to have any weapons. Our schedule will be regular academics in the morning and Halloween celebrations in the afternoon. Students may bring in a treat (preferably healthy treats such as fruit, veggies, meat/cheese, crackers etc.) with a few bringing in something sweet. If you could let me know what you would like to bring in (through your son/daughter) by tomorrow that would be great. Of course, this is optional. Halloween dance tonight! Have fun and remember that the normal school rules apply. Today we started the day in Phys. Ed., enjoying a warm up game of keep away with the soccer ball before playing red light, green light with the soccer balls. After reviewing some rules, we finished our gym class with a game of soccer. In language arts, we discussed ways we can start our stories to make them more exciting for our readers. We discussed using strategies such as starting with an action, sound, dialogue or a thought/feeling. After sharing some examples, we had a scavenger hunt to look find examples of those strategies in books around the classroom. Ask me which strategy I find the most effective. After recess, we read a chapter in Wonder, from the perspective of Justin. Ask me about Justin's initial reaction to August. Next we had math groups. In Ms. Parent's group, we discussed the "Share the String" pattern problem and discussed how the rule would help us to predict the number of people we could share with after each cut without having to use string. We also worked on another problem called Find the Sums. Ask me if I found the rule and how I could use it to solve the numbers in the output column. After lunch, we had DEAR time and then discussed ways to alter the story beginning that Ms. Tammy gave us before going to Music. We went to library after music and ended our day with a classroom cleanup and some cupcakes that Karolina brought in for her birthday! Yummy!! FYI:
*The deadline for the money for the Halloween Dance is tomorrow! $2/person with all proceeds going towards the grade 6 farewell ceremony. Homework: *Read for at least 20 minutes *Enjoy some time with your family and friends! We had a busy day today which included us spending our morning in Ms. Lauf's classroom to allow them to enjoy the scientist in the classroom! Our morning work asked us to think about how we would design our dream school if we had no limits! Ask me about some of the choices I would make! During Phys. Ed, we started with a game of octopus, enjoyed a game of European Handball and then practiced dribbling a soccer ball with our feet in a game of keep-away. After Phys. Ed, we had a quick snack and sketched a bit more details into our schools. Next we took part in an art history lesson, where we had small group discussions about an image of Leonardo da Vinci. Afterwards, we did a brief study of some history on Leonardo before sharing what we learned. Then we took part in a mini-french lesson on introductions and being able to ask someone what their name is. Ask me to introduce myself and to ask you what your name is as well. After lunch we enjoyed our time with Scientist Sherry!! Ask me all about what I learned today!! FYI:
Scientist in the classroom: Don't take rocks for granite (Monday, October 24th- all afternoon!) Fish Creek walk (Wednesday, October 26th- leaving at 1pm) Congratulations to Emerson who was selected as the Student of Week!! Enjoy your teacher chair for the week! Homework: Go onto www.kiddle.co and complete some research on the topic you said you were passionate about! It can be anything from a sport, celebrity or an animal (or anything else you might be interested in). You could continue with your choice from today or select a new topic if you would like. The 1/2 just flew by! We started the day dancing to some of our requested songs from the week and after that was finished, we had a quick snack before starting computers. We are learning to become effective researchers and we started that out by looking at signs of a good website (www, .com, .ca, .org and https:). Ask me about the topic I have chosen based on my interests. Afterwards, we read another spooky story called Trick Or Treat: Smell My Feet before re-visiting the art piece we started to examine yesterday. Have a wonderful weekend everyone!! FYI:

We started the with European Handball in Phys. Ed and then had a circle to share a goal each student could work on today. Afterwards we watched a short section of Trashopolis and had a discussion before completing a sketch from an art piece done by Chris Jordan. Ask me what I think the dinosaur could be made of! Ed. which the students have really started to master! Next we had a quick circle to share a highlight from our weekend and to get us thinking about some things we could use in our writing. After recess, we read a couple of chapters in Wonder before writing in our journals to share some details about what we did on the weekend. Next, we began discussing how our choices could impact those around us and used that review to launch us into a video called "Trashopolis" which examines the history of choice around trash in Mumbai over the past several hundred years. After watching a few moments, we shared some initial thoughts, observations and questions that we had before going to lunch. After lunch, we took part in our daily D.E.A.R. and then had a class meeting to discuss our upcoming math groups! We played a quick transition game before going to music. Once coming back from music, we reviewed the few minutes of the film watched in the morning before watching another 4 minutes. Once we were done, we wrote under the headings "See, Think and Wonder" in our writing journals and shared those with the class. Ask me about some of the things I have observed and that I am wondering about! What a great day! Have a wonderful night everyone! Happy Birthday Carys!!

If you always read more than 30 minutes (great!) then try to go outside or play a board game with your family for the same amount of time! Today was a great first day back after the LONG weekend! We hope everyone was able to enjoy some time with their family and friends :) We started the morning with a quick journal entry that asked the students to think of things they are grateful or thankful to have in their lives. Ask me about one think I am grateful for and why I feel that way! Next we had a dance party for our Phys. Ed. block as we don't have the gym during our regular scheduled time due to the changes for Power Hour.
