We are working really hard to be ready for our concert! We followed up our science lesson yesterday (looking at what is a fair test, how to make a hypothesis and how to design a model) and started building a prototype of a structure using squares and a structure using triangles. We are trying to determine which shape will create the strongest structures. We talked a bit about getting and receiving feedback to help us move our learning forward in the class. We watched a short video called Austin's Butterfly which allowed us to think about how specific feedback can really help someone improve their work. Here is the link: https://youtu.be/hqh1MRWZjms After that we had an author's chair! Two students from the class shared their journal entry (Hogwarts letter) and were able to get stars and wishes from other students in the class to help make their writing better! Thank you to Ashlee and Regine for taking a risk :) After recess, we had snack and read some of Harry Potter before working on our adventure maps and setting up the rest of our sections in our book! We watched a short video on Pink Shirt Day before enjoying an amazing assembly put on by the grade 4s! After the assembly, we did the paper crumple demonstration to think about and realize the impact of words and actions on others. We had a group discussion and then worked on a reflection in our journal. Ms. Very read a story called "The Bad Seed" - ask me what it was about! We started a t-shirt design for Pink Shirt Day in our books :)

Lots of us are starting to get close to finishing! After recess, Ms. Very read to us from Harry Potter and then we did a guided drawing of Harry Potter for that section of our visual journal entry. We used the rest of the time before lunch recess to work on our Eagle entry-thinking of ways we show love at home and at school as well as why the eagle represents the teaching of love. She will be learning how to be a teacher in our class until April 27th and we are VERY excited to have her join us :) We started our day with a choice of three different writing prompts, after having some time to share our weekend activities during some table talk. We could either: share some things we did on our weekend, write about the strangest dream we've ever had or write a short story that illustrated what super power we might choose to have and how we would use it. After music, we finished up our CSI thinking routine in our visual journal which asked us to think of a color, symbol and image related to some Peruvian music videos we watched last week (and watched again today). It was a blue day today so we had our grade 6 buddies join us and lead a game of wax museum for those students wanting to play. After recess, we added in some stops on our Harry Potter pages and then we met up with Ms. England's class to take part in our heart tower building challenge that we ran out of time to complete last week. We were challenged to first build a tower that was able to stand on it's own and then we were challenged to build it as high as we could. We worked on this through lunch recess, as it was still too cold outside. After lunch, we had 10 minutes of DEAR time before having a sharing circle. We shared about our weekend and talked about something Ms. Very might not know about us. Before PE, we talked about important factors to consider when measuring (units, starting at zero or finding the difference and agreeing on the points of measurements) after measuring a water bottle and getting many different measurements. In PE, we played tornado dodge ball and then a combination of bench dodgeball and doctor dodgeball. After PE, we measured our towers and then went to Ms. England's class to make some observations on videos looking at some of the culture in Tunisia. Homework: Read for 20 minutes
