Homework: Read for at least 20 minutes everyday
Tomorrow is festive clothing day! Wednesday is crazy hat day! Thursday is free choice day (maybe we can wear our favorite jersey or pj's if you want!) Important dates: Dec. 19th: Teacher's Pet (Tunisia): 12:30-2:30 Dec. 20th: Fun lunch- Boston Pizza Dec. 21st: Caroling (am) & classroom celebration/party (pm) Dec. 21st: Last day of school before the break! Highlights: On Friday we: worked on our science presentations on the computer and had some time coding, we had snack and listened to a story, we worked with our buddy class to help them make cards for their families. On Thursday, with Ms. Temple, we worked on our science presentations, had a bit of time for coding, played some math games, worked on props, worked on our rough copy of our "I AM (fill in the blank)" acrostic poems Today we: Worked on a special art project for the morning We designed our dream gingerbread houses which will be a part of our week long project (math) We listened to some of The One and Only Ivan and then made a stop on our adventure map We worked on some cards We went and did a lesson with Ms. Purkiss that asked us to think about the size of the problem and the size of a reaction. We talked about the fact that there shouldn't be any problems at school where we would need to act in an unexpected way (tantrum, crying etc.) and that we should always be using strategies to make sure we are in the green zone at school (where we would be acting in a way that is expected). We played 4 corners/capture the bean bag in PE We were able to take Buddy around because he put himself in a jar today! He also brought us a tree and ornaments :) Eve brought us a new sign too! Congratulations to Abby who earned student of the week last week and has the last week of using the teacher chair before the new year! Thank you to Tristan for taking such great care of Finuffy this weekend!

Making Memories Family Night On Thursday, December 14 from 6:30 - 7:30, please join us for an evening of fun and community building! Events include:
We Club will be providing lots of optional opportunities for giving back: Giving Tree We have adopted a family of 13 from GW Skene. Stop by the Giving Tree and pick up a gift tag off the tree. Shop with your family to fill the need on the card and return the unwrapped gift and card by Monday, December 18. Fill a Sock, Fill a Need, Fill a Heart You have probably seen the boxes and posters placed around the school for this initiative already. We are accepting donations to fill socks for the homeless at the Drop In Center to open on Christmas morning. Toothbrushes, gloves, mitts, hats, travel size toiletries, hair brushes, combs, gift cards (McDonalds, Tim Hortons, Subway), cough drops, candies, lip balm, travel mugs. (We already have lots of floss and tooth paste). Making Memories Sale On the evening of the Making Memories Sale, our WE Club students will be selling ornaments and some other handmade items. All proceeds will be split between the Drop In Center, our adopted family and the Food Bank. The week before the Making Memories night, we will be showing off some of our beautiful handicrafts to entice some sales the evening of December 14th. We look forward to sharing a fun evening together! Mayor's Food DriveThe Grade 2 students are organizing a food drive to support our local Food Bank. Please send in non-perishable food or money to be donated on December 15. Highlights from our day: We had music today and Carter played a song on the piano for everyone :) We talked about acrostic poems and together we made up an example with the word candy- we are learning how we are expected to show our use of language differently now that we are in grade 3! Ask me about some of the features of an acrostic poem. We spent a bit of time today setting up our visual journals with the titles and thinking routines (see/think/wonder/sketch, CSI etc) for our Peru centers...we needed 16 pages to complete this task! We talked about the number zero and the impact it can have on two numbers. Today we talked about 18 and 108 and came up with some things we could share/show about these numbers. We played hockey in PE We worked on our backgrounds for the family night coming up and talked about our artwork for the door. We read some of the One and Only Ivan Have a great night everyone! We are collecting paper towel rolls and toilet paper rolls for our hearing and sound centers! Sorry I have been away for a bit- I will highlight the last few days of what the students have been up to :) Today we: Had a morning circle and heard all about Finuffy's weekend with Jarrett :) We had Cnst. Jan in to talk to us about digital citizenship- ask me something I found interesting about the time with him! We read a couple of chapters in The One and Only Ivan- we were a bit sad to hear about the claw but Ruby found a way to keep herself safe! We did a self reflection about our citizenship and personal development in the classroom in our first term at school :) We reviewed some of the things we learned from Cnst. Jan and set up our visual journal reflection page. We also set up a page for a winter poem. We had silent reading, made up for our missed recess and PE with Ms. England's class We worked on our backdrops and props for the winter celebration Last week we: Thought about an invention that would help make our lives easier- we sketched it, created labels and wrote a paragraph detailing it's purpose and how it would work. We created an animal- students drew pictures and label the types of food, habitat, and plants and animals that might live around their animal. We worked on the computer on some coding skills at hourofcode.com We worked on our backgrounds for the celebration night We worked on our arpilleras (cutting out items we might use in our Peru scenes) We played math and literacy games We Homework: Please read for 20 minutes everyday.

Once our geodes were dry, we got to put them into our bags to take home We designed a few sketch ideas for our rock painting and had a chance to start painting them Some of us remade our conglomerate rocks in plastic cups as the dixie cups stuck to some of our first attempts We talked about our upcoming math project where we will create a board game to summarize our learning in patterns and what we know about place value. We reviewed the criteria for success and steps needed to complete the project. We had a circle to share our weekend activities and to hear all about Finuffy's exciting weekend in Lethbridge with Shilo We selected words and counted syllables for our Tanka poems and started our rough drafts We worked on some puck handling skills in hockey for PE Our classroom elf, Buddy, made it's first appearance in our class today! We wonder what sort of mischief he will get into after we leave for the day. Congratulations to Serenity (last week) and Ella (this week) on earning the teacher chair for their dedication to trying their best in our class every week! We are all so proud of you :) |
