We had music on Wednesday! We worked in our visual journals a couple of times over the past two days with time given to work on the both the beaver sketch and wolf sketch as well as the written reflection on wisdom. We finished looking at reptiles, amphibians and mammals in our animal life cycles powerpoint to better understand the types of changes and number of changes that happen throughout various life cycles. We have been working on math games with area and perimeter as well as had some time working on multiplication/division and money on 10 monkeys. We worked on our Google slides project with our partner in regards to research from Ukraine. We had an outdoor mission! We have been reading from The Chamber of Secrets We talked about Humility: why the wolf represents humility, what humility means and how we show it in the classroom and at home. We've continued lacrosse in PE and today we were able to split the group and allow some students to try playing a game :) We played some cooperative games for health :) We had our last power hour of the year! Started our day with a Harry Potter word search while Ms. Parent took attendance! We reviewed animal life cycles (ask me what the difference between a complete and incomplete metamorphosis is and how many stages each of those have) on a powerpoint before heading to music! We had our snack and read from our novel before music and we talked about the expectations for PC's after recess. We worked on 10 monkeys before getting to work on our Ukrainian Google Slides project! After lunch, we had DEAR time and then worked on some area and perimeter games and questions before gym. In PE, Jarrett and Tristan lead us in a lacrosse lesson before we tried a new game called Chicken and Foxes (or something like that haha) thanks to Ms. Lauf. After PE, we talked about our upcoming work in IRIS and then we worked on our Wisdom teaching and our sketches of our wolves (Humility). Have a great night everyone! We had a quick Friday morning! We started out with some division in mathematics and then we worked on our Ukrainian slides. Next we had snack and read a bit of of Harry Potter before making some observations on the butterflies that are in Ms. Lauf's room. Afterwards, we went to music and some of us got to try some instruments. After music, we cleaned our classroom up and went to meet our buddy class :) We had some reading time before going outside for PE/play with our buddies! Have an amazing weekend everyone! We started our day in math with some division and multiplication games! Next we went into Scratch coding where the students were challenged to see if they could draw a square and a triangle before we moved into our story writing in Google Docs. We read from The Chamber of Secrets after recess and then we started to look at the outcomes for our final science unit: Animal Life Cycles. Afterwards, we looked at the difference between complete metamorphosis and incomplete metamorphosis (after talking about what metamorphosis is and connected that work back to rocks and minerals!). We looked at the stages of each type of change and talked about why one is considered complete and one incomplete. Ask me what I learned! Afterwards, we met with Ms. O and talked about the duck eggs in her class and we were able to candle the eggs and talk about what we noticed. After lunch we had power hour and then we finished our art for the volunteer tea, cleaned up and then went outside for PE. Have a great night everyone!! IMPORTANT DATES
May 23: Last day of City Hall School May 25: Volunteer Tea Highlights from our past two days! We worked on our "plan" for our stories that we are typing on the computer! We are creating adventure maps to help us plan our problems and solutions and the overall storyline. We finished our thank you cards for City Hall SChool and everyone signed all of the cards :) Thank you to Ashlee and Abby for creating our sacred teaching animal pieces for Ms. Sheila and Mr. Nenshi! We had music yesterday! We worked on finishing our 6 room poetry and our stories after working on some division questions! We are creating string art flowers- so we watched a couple of short videos and started creating our own for the volunteer tea. Those of us who were waiting were working on our Wisdom and Humility teachings in our visual journals. Today we had an AMAZING last day at City Hall School. We Club Info! The Prince of Wales We Club is holding a fundraiser for Unicef this week. They have 2 activities planned, and to participate is by donation.
Dead Battery Drop Off The Prince of Wales We Club is asking for dead battery donations. Did you know that zinc deficiency in our diet can have a huge impact on brain and body growth? One battery has enough zinc to be processed into vitamin pills for 6 children! Send any non-leaking batteries down. They are collecting them until end of May. IMPORTANT DATES May 17: Spring Picture Order Forms Due May 18: PD Day (no school for students) May 21: Victoria Day (school closed) May 23: Last day of City Hall School May 25: Volunteer Tea Highlights from our day: We started our day in music and then we did some read aloud time with a quick snack (have we mentioned how much we are LOVING the end of The Philosopher's Stone?). Next, we shared some things we heard on our outdoor mission yesterday and wondered how we heard different things even when we were sitting back to back! Afterwards, we watched two short videos on rock stacking as an art form which led us into our mission for the day- build a mini cairn at the playground! Ask me what my record was :) Once we were done, we read the LAST few pages of our novel while we were outside!! We worked on our adventure maps, some of our character descriptions and in our problem/solution spaces- which we will add to tomorrow. We had a mini lesson on division and applied that during our time on 10monkeys.com We worked on typing our 6 room poetry- tomorrow we will talk about centering texts, adjusting color and size and then look at margins (if needed). We had DEAR time today. In PE we played "Not in my Backyard" and "Ship to Shore" During our math lesson, we reviewed area and perimeter and then started to solve some problems using squares and rectangles. IMPORTANT DATES
May 16: Fun Lunch (Wok Box) May 18: PD Day (no school for students) May 25: Volunteer Tea Starting this week, we have begun taking on some outdoor missions as a way to start our learning :) One mission asked us to sit quietly, back to back with a partner, and to record all of the sounds we heard in five minutes while another asked us to excavate any materials from a finger sized whole that we dug and to record our findings in our visual journals. We had music today :) We had an introductory lesson on area and perimeter- ask me what I know about each one and maybe see if I can calculate the area and perimeter of a square or rectangle :) Today we voted on reading a whole EXTRA chapter of Harry Potter during our math block as it has been very exciting and we are SO close to the end! We shall make up the math lesson tomorrow ;) We worked on division (computation) on 10 monkeys today. We have finished up our Tunisia presentations over the last two days! We are continuing our work on story beginnings. Today we went over how to copy and paste and some of us have started to edit our story beginnings using the feedback provided by our groups. Library tomorrow- please remember to bring in your books! Congratulations Presley on getting to take Finuffy home! Way to go Tristan on earning the teacher's chair this week!!

We went to PE with Ms. England's class and played Hotdog Tag- thank you Cameron for teaching us a fun game! After PE we continued working on part 2 of our special project, watched a little bit of our movie and enjoyed a lovely snack thanks to Jonah and Presley!! Short blog but there was lots of love in our classroom today and over the week. The students worked really hard this week on preparing gifts with their hearts :) Have a wonderful weekend everyone!! May 14: Elder Shirley Hill May 16: Elder Shirley Hill May 16: Fun Lunch (Wok Box) May 18: PD Day (no school for students) May 25: Volunteer Tea Here is what we have been up to: On Tuesday we spent our morning finishing our thank you cards for City Hall School :) We also talked about some special gifts for Ms. Shelia and Mayor Nenshi to keep in their offices! We had music - ask me what I have been working on :) We reviewed expectations for Weaselhead and watched a video on intrusive plants! We worked on some computational questions in multiplication, division and also looked into some difference between different shapes. We worked on our story beginnings and then provided feedback on one beginning for 2 peers (two stars and a wish) on our Google Doc using the comments tool :) We spent the whole afternoon with Ms. Ferrari working on a special felting project! We spent Wednesday at Weaselhead! Ask me 3 things I learned, two things I loved and a question I still have :) Today, we started our morning working on our visual journal entries for Weaselhead! We also caught up on a couple of adventure stops for Harry Potter. After recess, we talked about the teaching of Wisdom. Asking what animal represents this teaching and why this is true. Ask me to tell you a few things I learned about that animal today :) Afterwards, we sketched the animal and a background/foreground in our visual journal. We learned that due to the PATs we would have to be flexible with our afternoon. We worked on a fun, special project until 130pm and then spent the last hour of the day in Power Hour :) IMPORTANT DATES

May 14: Elder Shirley Hill May 16: Elder Shirley Hill May 16: Fun Lunch (Wok Box) May 18: PD Day (no school for students) May 25: Volunteer Tea Here are a few things we got up to today: We started the day working on some multiplication and geometry skills on ten monkeys which will be a nice lead into our work with area and perimeter this week :) We reviewed our story beginning strategies and practiced as whole group as a way to start our own story beginnings! We are currently using our character developments and work in our settings to write 3 interesting story beginnings on Google Docs. We have shared those with two partners, selected one of the three story beginnings by highlighting one and asked our peers to provide us with 2 stars and 1 wish. We will continue this work over the week and as we continue with the story writing process! Thank you to Ms. Bezugley for coming into our classroom today to see what we are learning in our writing unit :) After recess and until lunch recess- we celebrated Music Monday with Ms. Morin's father :) What a great experience! After lunch, we had circle and then had a few minutes of DEAR time before watching a short video on invasive plants to get us ready for Weaslehead on Wednesday! In PE- we played dodgeball/capture the chicken! We had one Social presentation after lunch, enjoyed delicious cupcakes from Gavin and ended the day with 5 minutes outside :) |
