Congratulations to last weeks student of the week- Maryn!! She demonstrated an ability to follow through with classroom expectations, support her peers in various learning activities and to ensure she stayed on task during independent learning opportunities! Way to go Maryn!
FYI: *Book orders due Wednesday! *Fun lunch on Wednesday! *PD day on Friday- no school Homework: Read for at least 20 minutes a day. Students should be selecting a new home-reading book after arriving at school each day :) As you all know- Ms. Parent was away on Thursday and we welcome Mr. Ibbotson into our classroom. The students participated in their first lockdown practice and most students were able to show great levels of maturity during this serious practice activity. We started our day working on our graphic stories where we created fiction stories about where Ms. Parent might have been on Thursday. Afterwards, we went into the gym and worked on our passing skills before playing a couple of scrimmage games in ringette. After gym, we worked on our mapping assignments until recess before having a snack and reading a chapter of Wonder. Ask me what I predict will happen in the next chapter called "Aliens"! Next, we went back to writing our creature fairytales that we put aside while we worked so diligently on our Remembrance Day preparations. We typed out our stories using a different font for each voice in our collaborative stories and some of us have even started our chalk pastel final art pieces! After lunch, we enjoyed our music class before spending a bit more time on our art pieces and then participating in cooperative games for health class. Finally, we rated our goals and cleaned up our learning space before heading home! Have a great night everyone!

Afterwards, we had our math groups where Ms. Parent's class worked on some pattern assessments and started a square challenge! Ask me about it! After lunch, we had DEAR time before thinking about some sketches we might put on our science bookmark competitions for our morning work tomorrow. We had music afterwards- ask me what I did! Finally, we had our literacy block where we all moved to a new center :) Homework:
Read for at least 20 minutes! We started our day reading an article related to the grade 3 and 4 curriculum and completing some questions related to the article for our morning work. Ask me about the article I am reading :) Afterwards, we had a circle to welcome Corbin back and students shared various highlights for their weekend. We had Phys. Ed lead by Ms. S today- ask me about the games we played! After allowing everyone to finish in our sharing circle while have a morning snack, we spent the rest of our morning before recess (and a bit of time after recess) working on our mapping assignment where the grade 3s are examining the geography of the 4 global communities and the grade 4s are looking into the 6 regions of Alberta. Ask me what I find challenging about this task! We read a couple of chapters of Wonder before moving into a writing block. We reviewed the importance of writing drafts and applying feedback to the writing process before drafting our story beginnings using the feedback we received from our peers. During DEAR time, we continued working on our science readings from the morning before going to Music. Ask me about what we are doing in music right now! Finally, we ended our day with literacy centers. We are working on understanding the importance of identifying the author's purpose. Ask me about the center I worked on today. Have a great night everyone! :) Congratulations to Logan who was our student of the week! Logan has worked really hard this week to express himself appropriately and to ensure he is accepting feedback in a positive manner! Way to go Logan!!
FYI: Book orders will go home on Monday and will be due on Thursday Fun lunch on Wednesday What a fun Friday! We enjoyed our pajama day in grade 3/4 today and lots of students brought in really great stuffies! We have been working on using our peers as a resource to move our learning forward and we have practiced this through giving each other feedback. This morning, we watched a short video called "Austin's Butterfly" to help us understand how specific feedback allows us to really improve our work. Afterwards, we looked at the feedback (two stars and a wish) we provided to a peer and tried to use what we learned to change the feedback to be more specific and helpful for the writer. Afterwards, we used that feedback to re-write our story beginnings. Next, we completed recycling for the school, had a snack break and then used our time earned to watch some of the movie Home. This movie connected to the theme in our book Wonder, where an unlikely pair overlooked some differences to become friends. Finally, we met with our buddies and started our buddy portraits :) Have a great weekend everyone!! Go Flames Go!! FYI:
Fun lunch is on Nov. 30th Pajama day on tomorrow!! Homework: Read for 20 minutes :) Ask me all about my trip to Telus Spark!! FYI:
Field trip forms for Telus Spark need to be brought in asap :) Fun lunch is on Nov. 29th Pajama day on Friday!! Homework: Read for 20 minutes :) We started out our day practicing our typing skills and spending some time getting familiar with our research websites before working on our social studies research projects! Ask me about the country or region of Alberta that I started with and what I might have learned so far :) After recess, we went to our math groups. Ms. Parent's class finished up their challenge and started to create equations from the cuisenaire rods. Next, we read a couple of chapters in Wonder; ask me what happened today! After lunch, the grade 4 students continued their research projects while the grade 3 students started their mapping assignment. The grade 4s will begin their mapping assignment tomorrow! We had our second to last power hour class today- ask me what I did today :) Congratulations to Hudson who was our student of the week last week!! Hudson demonstrated an ability to always choose kindness and to follow instructions quickly!
Thank you to Ms. Smith for the yummy (and creative) cookies for Wyatt's birthday which was on Nov. 12th :) Quote of the week: When given the choice between being right or being kind, choose kind. FYI: Telus Spark is on Nov. 17th, 2016. Forms are going home today! Thank you to those parents who are able to come and support us! Fun lunch is on Nov. 29th :) Thank you to all of the grade 3/4 students for your hard work and dedication in preparing for the assembly last week (sorry, apparently the Thursday post didn't work). You should all be very proud of your effort and sacrifices that were made in order to put on such an emotional and respectful Remembrance Day assembly. We started our day with a quiet reading period for our morning work (and earned an easy 5 minutes for our earned time!) before meeting for circle. In Phys. Ed, we played a game of hockey where we are focusing on being respectful and having fun while developing our skills. Next, we talked about how we can set goals that can help improve our learning and the learning of our peers. We all set a goal that we will be responsible for tracking on a daily basis. Ask me what my goal is and what strategies I will use to help me achieve my goal. After recess, we read two very sad chapters in our Wonder book. Ask me about the fight between Via and Auggie and how that was overshadowed by a sad goodbye :( During our goal setting, we had a surprise fire drill which meant we were unable to get to our social videos this morning! We did have time to practice our French introductions, reviewed a song to remind us how to ask how we are feeling and went over our numbers to 50. After lunch, we had DEAR time (after organizing and finishing up some stuff from the morning) before going to music class. Next, we watched a couple of videos to get us to think about some initial observations of the countries and province that we are examining in grade 3 and 4, respectively, before discussing some of the similarities and differences that we noticed. Ask me what I thought! Enjoy your night grade 3/4s :) Smart teacher move- I copied the blog to a word document and thankfully so as the blog disappeared again!
Congratulations to Alexis who is our student of the week! Alexis demonstrated an ability to always choose kindness, to follow instructions quickly and to make smart choices, in addition to really helping out in our classroom this week. Enjoy your teacher chair next week :) FYI: * The post from yesterday disappeared :-/ * From the office: If you wish your child to have retakes, please send in the original proof order form. If you have misplaced the form, you can write a note to your child’s teacher so we know you have given permission to have retakes done. * Upcoming: Remembrance Day Assembly is next Thursday (please wear a white shirt- no logo- and black pants * Telus Spark: November 17th (all day) Homework: Please write down what you know about the poppy (think about the stories we have read, videos watched etc.). Consider: What does the poppy represent? Why do we wear poppies? When did we start wearing poppies? Do you think it is important to wear a poppy every year? Why? We started our day with a Friday dance party and then moved into computers. We discussed what celebrations we celebrate in our homes and shared some of traditions that go along with those celebrations. The grade 3 students started to look into some different celebrations that take place in the 4 global communities while the grade 4 students are looking into some celebrations that take place here in Alberta. After computers, we read a book called The Peace Book and started our own pages on what peace means to us in our visual journals. Ask me what peace means to me! Finally, we a short video on the poppy and over the weekend we need to look into what the poppy represents and why it is an important symbol for our Canadian history. Have a great weekend!
