Picture forms were sent home today! Homework: *Enjoy some time with your family for the long weekend!! *Remember to read everyday for at least 20 minutes. This morning we started the day with a sharing circle where we shared one character trait we would like to focus on today. Afterwards, we went to Phys. Ed where we played a few rounds of squirrel tag and everyone had an opportunity to be a squirrel, cat or tree. Next, we spent some time working on our writing assessments! After meeting as a whole group to review the tips and tricks for writing a journal, we spent some time writing. Lots of us are either finished our draft or are getting close! We have worked really hard this week to ensure we are adding lots of detail and trying to make sure their journals are interesting for the reader. After recess, we had a teacher swap and Ms. Hewitt read our class a book as part one of our character day celebrations. Ask me about the Sandwich Swap and what character traits were identified as being a part of the story! Next we spent some time creating our title pages for our stories that allowed us another opportunity to highlight some of our ideas for our hypothetical trip to anywhere we would like to go. Once we finished, we spent a few minutes on our art projects before lunch. After lunch, Ms. Heagy came into our class and read a book called The Invisible Boy. Ask me about Brian and how he was able to become visible again! Next we had music class and that was followed by our library time. To finish the day, we enjoyed some cooperative games that allow us to develop ideas around playing fair, following the rules and problem solving. Have a wonderful long weekend everyone!! Happy Birthday Jacob!!
FYI: *Remember to send in your power hour forms as they are due tomorrow! Homework: *Read for 20 minutes *Read and comment on the blog Today the grade three students finished up the first part of the SLAs, while those that were finished participated in a HUGE grade 3 gym class. The grade four students continued with their health class with Mr. V and Ms. Manzer. After recess, we read two short chapters in Wonder and then completed a reading response. Ask me about what happened with Auggie and Jack in Mr. Roche's class. Ask me about the scene I drew and why I thought it was important. Next we spent the last 30 minutes working on our art/ELA projects. Some of us are now working on our good copies which will be done on watercolor paper, using watercolor pencil crayons and sharpies! After lunch, we spent 30 minutes finishing up our planning and starting our writing assessments. We had music and then went back to our writing assessments. We discovered that it can be difficult to work so quietly but we work on building our stamina. Homework:
* Grade 4 students have a discussion sheet from their health class to discuss with an adult * Read for 20 minutes * Ask your parents what character strengths they would want to focus on to become the best version of themselves. Share the three you selected in your hand portrait to give them some ideas! Homework
*Read for 20 minutes *Watch Episode 2 from the Class Dojo series at www.classdojo.com/BigIdeas and discuss the take home questions with your parents *Comment on the blog We hope everyone had a great weekend! Today was a busy day for the grade 3/4s! The grade three students started off their morning taking part in their first morning of writing the digital assessment for literacy. It was a bit confusing for everyone to start the morning but once they started- they showed a lot of perseverance as they worked through some of the assessment! The grade four students took on a tough math problem that required them to look for patterns in numbers to solve a puzzle! After recess, we enjoyed reading another chapter of Wonder! Ask me about the Summer Table :) Next, we finished up our rough copies of our ELA "All About Me" writing piece which we will use with our hand portraits we are also working on! After lunch, we started to brainstorm for a writing assessment that we will be completing over the next few days before going to music. Once music was finished, we continued to brainstorm and then watched another growth mindset video. We will be completing a visual journal entry to share our learning. FYI

Homework: * Read for at least 20 minutes everyday. Summarize what you read to your parents to show them you comprehend the texts you have selected. *Enjoy the weather! Go outside and do something fun with your family * Comment on the blog to show Ms. Parent that you have read it with your parents! The morning flew by today! We started our morning by reading a book called Odd Velvet and then had a discussion about the character strengths that Velvet showed in the book. One of the common themes that came forward was her ability to show Bravery by choosing to do things that made her happy instead of changing to make her peers happy. Ask me about some of the other traits we discussed! Afterwards, we practiced answering a few literacy and numeracy SLA questions which will allow us to see how to take part in the assessment next week. We talked about this as just being an assessment to help us support everyone in their learning and that it isn't something to get worried about. The grade 4 students had an opportunity to pair and share with their library books they selected yesterday. Finally, we spent some time getting familiar with the centers in the Idea Lab :) Students shared their feelings about the lab, including things they enjoyed, things they would change and some things they would like to see in the lab. Have a great weekend!! FYI:
*Remember: all students should be commenting on the blog each night to show they are reading it :) *Picture day is September 28th, 2016 in the gym Homework: *Read every night for at least 20 minutes. *Watch the growth mindset video (episode 1) at www.classdojo.com/BigIdeas and answer the take home questions your son/daughter has brought home Today was a busy day at PoW in grade 3/4! We had a fire drill this afternoon and the students did an amazing job following the expectations and leaving the school quickly, quietly and safely. This morning we worked on our classroom community projects, which required us to create a blue print of our classroom and to think about what is working, what they might change and things they might want to add to our classroom. We will continue this work tomorrow. We read a bit more of our novel after recess and completed a reading response based on our discussions today. During math, we looked at the number of ways we could make the number 100 or 1000 using all operations, pictures and even tally marks. We talked about how there could be patterns within their answers but to also challenge themselves to use all operations and to try to create multistep possibilities. We had music and library this afternoon and signed out our first books! FYI:
Please return school forms ASAP Please return the Admazing Coupon books or $20.00 Homework: I need to bring in pictures of myself and/or of my interests and hobbies for a craft tomorrow What's my birth story? Ask me about August's birth story from our class novel Wonder This morning we shared how we were feeling and any exciting things about our weekends. In Phys. Ed. today we played a game of mosquito tag and dodgeball. Afterwards, we brainstormed important elements in writing complete sentences, such as juicy words, capitalization and punctuation. Then we wrote a journal entry with a particular focus on writing complete sentences. After recess, we read another chapter in Wonder and then had partner discussion about how it easy or difficult it might be to have August join our class. The students offered very mature and insightful feedback regarding this question and all of us agreed that what is on the inside is far more important that how we might look on the outside. In math today, we filled in a hundreds chart and started to look at patterns within the chart. After lunch, we enjoyed some silent reading and then we went to music class. Finally, we started to completed an art project that will include elements such as lines, shading and color in addition to a writing component. Have a great night! |
