FYI:
* Student packages were sent home today! Please return all forms as soon as possible :) * We talked about the importance of staying hydrated today- please send a water bottle with your son/daughter if you want. Homework (someone asked haha!): * Have a conversation about how our home is similar to a community * Ask me about our one second class parties and class groans! * Spend some time playing a game together :) Today was another great day in grade 3 & 4. We started the day in a circle, rating how we were feeling out of 10, sharing something about ourselves and one activity we did last night. Afterwards, we went to the gym and played zombie tag, wall ball and finished with graveyard. Next we finished our last center looking at artifacts that Ms. Parent brought in from her last school. After we were finished, we shared some of the things we noticed, some of the things the artifacts reminded us of and some questions we had using the stem "I wonder". Ms Parent shared why the artifacts were important to us and many of us made connections to some things we have learned about First Nation people in previous grades. We had a short class meeting where we reviewed our class rules. Next, we continued reading our class novel, Wonder, and laughed a lot about some of the funny names the characters have been given in the book. The principal of Auggie's new school was named Mr. Tushman and there was another teacher named Ms. Butt. After lunch, we started with some silent reading. Next, we started to talk about how we are going to turn our classroom into a community! We discussed that in a classroom, every student (and teacher) should take an active role in making our classroom a safe space for everyone. We can do this by working together to solve problems and make everyone feel welcomed. As a class, we brainstormed things we love about our school and what makes our school unique. We can't wait to lay the foundation for creating our community which will tie into the grade 3 and 4 Social Studies themes! In music, the teacher told us about her summer and showed us some pictures in a slideshow. In art, we started a self-portrait and we earned our 5 minutes of free time!!

FYI:
*Student packages will be sent home tomorrow with forms needing to be filled out and returned to school. * I will be phoning all parents over the next two weeks to introduce myself and to hear about anything you would like to share about your son or daughter. Today was a great day! We started the day by taking part in a sharing circle where we shared how we were feeling and talked about our summer vacations. We went over some classroom expectations and how we can help everyone feel like they belong. We had gym outside today because there was furniture in the gym. We started a class novel today called Wonder which is about a boy who has some abnormalities in his face that not many people have. Afterwards, we wrote a journal entry about our summer vacation and things we wish our teacher knew about us. In the afternoon, we started with silent reading and then we did an activity in our visual journals. We went into groups and sketched some different artifacts that Ms. Parent brought in from her last school. These artifacts are special to Ms. Parent. We described what we saw, thought and wondered. We had an awesome day and we LOVED our first day in grade 3/4. |
