Important Dates:
Jan. 15th- Conference bookings open Jan 17th- Fun lunch (subway) Jan. 25th- Hearing and Sound presentation Jan. 25th- Parent/Teacher conferences (330-730pm) Jan. 26th- Parent/Teacher conferences (no school) Jan. 31st- Fun lunch (Edo) Homework: Read for 20 minutes everyday We started our day on computers where students were given the choice to start with 15 minutes of coding, typing practice or to work on an interest based google slide presentation. Next we looked at a website to support students in completing research in various areas of Peru (geography, lifestyle, culture etc.). They were given time after working through an example together to complete their own research in partners or independently. It was a blue day so students were able to have some free time on laptops using educational websites. We read some of The One and Only Ivan and completed a stop on our adventure map. We worked on our math assignment using the numbers 38 and 380. We went to the library today! We spent some time working on our good copies of our tanka and acrostic poems. We worked on different balances and routines in PE We continued with our poetry after PE as students were working hard to complete our first two poems. Please remember to bring in the report card envelopes signed :)

While they took quite a bit of time to finish- they all turned out amazing! Ask me how they are supposed to help us :) We reviewed the numbers 58 and 508 and talked about how they are the same or different by showing the numbers in different ways. We know that the zero is very important and that depending on it's position in a number- it can have a HUGE impact or no impact at all. We will be working independently on the numbers 38 and 380 tomorrow. We forgot about library as we were engaged in our math lesson so we will be going tomorrow :) Bring your books back in to exchange or renew. We had some silent reading after lunch and then talked about some of the vocabulary in our hearing and sound unit that will be very important for us to know. We are doing poster walks to come up with an illustration and definition of each word. They include: musical sound, amplification, pitch, soundproof, ultrasonic, volume, vibration, onomatopoeia, quality of sound, hearing damage, the human ear (knowing the name of the parts of the ear, sound waves and communication. We played a game where we had to guess where sounds were coming from, who might be making them (voices) and what the sounds might be when we changed the amplification, pitch and timbre of the sound as well as using sound proofing. The students (after PE) reflected on ways sounds can change and what makes sounds louder/quieter. Have a great night everyone! Don't forget to bring back your envelopes for your report cards (signed) and to return the signed copies of any IPPs :) Welcome back everyone :) What a great first day back with all of the students!!
Thank you to Jonah for taking such great care of Finuffy over the winter break :) Important Dates: Jan. 15th- Conference bookings open Jan 17th- Fun lunch (subway) Jan. 25th- Hearing and Sound presentation Jan. 25th- Parent/Teacher conferences (330-730pm) Jan. 26th- Parent/Teacher conferences (no school) Jan. 31st- Fun lunch (Edo) Homework: Read for 20 minutes everyday Highlights from our day: We started the day in circle to share some things from our winter break We had music with Ms. K We read a newsletter from City Hall School where we learned about Mayor Nenshi's hope that every person could do three acts of services (shoveling a driveway, inviting someone to play in a game, starting a club, opening a door) and then to challenge someone else to do the same! We worked on our tanka and acrostic poems and some of us were able to get some final feedback so we can start our good copies We worked on our arpilleras in Social Studies :) We talked about what we know about sound, questions we have about sound, why we think sound is important and watched a short video where we looked at the part of the ear and the function of those parts In PE we worked on some mat activities (rolls, cartwheels and different movements) and then played a gymnastics game called foxes and rabbits which encourage different levels of movement. We picked new classroom jobs and changed our seats today |
