FYI:
Field trip forms went home yesterday for Head Smashed In Buffalo Jump (June 7th)- please have them returned asap :) It is important to note (as stated in the email) that the bus will be pulling away at 730am sharp. Please have your son/daughter at the school by 7:10am. Fun lunch tomorrow! (Thanks to Carys for volunteering to help!) We have been working on some lots over the past two days! In math, we are continuing to look at the concept of multiplication (and it's relationship to division) through different methods. We most recently looked at creating arrays on a Cartesian plane and looking at the concept of area and perimeter of squares and rectangles as we explore this tool. In social, the students have been working on their mapping assignments that have asked them to explore resources, services and goods in their assigned area. This concept is also being explored the notion of working within different base systems...ask me what I know about the base 10 and base 5 system! *Note* please feel free to work on fluency of multiplication facts with your son or daughter; this can be done on the way to school by simply looking at license plates numbers (choosing two and multiplying them together). In addition, we have started to look at some FNMI teachings around the seven sacred animals which have allowed us to draw comparisons to ourselves in the process. The students have been making last minute changes and finishing up their stories in ELA in addition to working on scripts that are based on their guided reading novel as a part of our outdoor challenges. In art, we are working on developing a character to represent ourselves in a second yearbook which has been inspired by the work of Mr. Mike! These are a lot of work as we explore how to sketch like an artist; providing multiple sketches and ideas as we start to make our final selections. We finished our novel, The Hobbit, and will soon begin Auggie and Me which is the second novel to the book Wonder. In Phys. Ed., we have wrapped our fun unit in basketball (although we will still practice some of the skills we've learned in scrimmages) and have started to work on some bootcamp exercises as a part of our gym class. I hope everyone had a wonderful night with their family!
