FYI:
Peruvian Artifacts - We are currently studying the country of Peru. If you have any artifacts related to this unit of study that you would be willing to lend to our classroom it would be greatly appreciated. Artifacts could include pictures, dishes, art, paintings, sculptures, toys, books, clothing, tools, jewelry, etc… Students will sketch these artifacts, try to determine what they were used for, as well as how they are similar/different from artifacts here in Canada. Please send items to school with your child with a brief written explanation. It would be helpful if you did not explain details of the artifact to your child, as they will be taking part in the sketching, observation, and inquiry process of the artifact with their classmates. We promise to take extra special care of your personal items! School Pictures – Picture orders due on or before October 4. Orange Shirt Assembly – Friday 8:30 – 8:50 am. We as a Grade 3 Group are responsible for leading this assembly. Everyone is welcome. Important Dates: September 28: Fish Creek Walk September 29: Orange Shirt Day October 6: Terry Fox Run For a comment today, please answer the following question: If we received 12 points of time earned on Monday, 9 points of earned time on Tuesday, and 6 points of earned time on Wednesday, how many points do you think we would earn on Thursday and Friday? What do you notice about the pattern? What is the pattern rule? Highlights for today: -We talked about two of the artifacts and filled in some information under the "I know" section of our visual journals -We finished our orange shirts for the assembly -We had music this morning- ask me what I am supposed to do on the music blog! -We started a math problem called "Legs, Legs and More Legs" that we will continue to work on tomorrow -We had a classroom meeting to discuss the importance of taking ownership of our own learning, making responsible choices and ensuring we provide everyone a space to have their own beliefs and values. -We met with Ms. England's and Ms. Lauf's classes twice today. We watched a couple of videos to help us continue to build empathy and understanding around the residential schools and our move towards reconciliation. We started out watching a video created by the students and staff at Niitsitapi Learning Centre (formally the Aboriginal Learning Centre) which helped us understand why we acknowledge the traditional territories and language practices of the Blackfoot Nations when we begin any school ceremonies. Next we watched a short film called Teaching About Residential Schools to Children (youtu.be/NueIHENCckw) to review the concept of a residential school. We also watch the story called "When I Was Eight" which tells the story of a young girl who was eager to go to school to learn to read like her older sister; however, she had to overcome much adversity once arriving at the school in order to maintain her passion to learn to read. youtu.be/LSBrkJn3NeI This is not an easy topic for students to learn about but one that is important to be aware of as it helps create a sense of empathy, respect, remembrance and reconciliation for First Nation people and their experiences as they move through the healing process. We asked students to reflect on the following questions:
We will continue to investigate and will be using student responses to these questions, as well as various artwork in our assembly on Friday.

I do as well Ashlee. That was not a good time for First Nation people (and children) in Canadian history.
