May 16: Fun Lunch (Wok Box) May 18: PD Day (no school for students) May 25: Volunteer Tea Starting this week, we have begun taking on some outdoor missions as a way to start our learning :) One mission asked us to sit quietly, back to back with a partner, and to record all of the sounds we heard in five minutes while another asked us to excavate any materials from a finger sized whole that we dug and to record our findings in our visual journals. We had music today :) We had an introductory lesson on area and perimeter- ask me what I know about each one and maybe see if I can calculate the area and perimeter of a square or rectangle :) Today we voted on reading a whole EXTRA chapter of Harry Potter during our math block as it has been very exciting and we are SO close to the end! We shall make up the math lesson tomorrow ;) We worked on division (computation) on 10 monkeys today. We have finished up our Tunisia presentations over the last two days! We are continuing our work on story beginnings. Today we went over how to copy and paste and some of us have started to edit our story beginnings using the feedback provided by our groups. Library tomorrow- please remember to bring in your books!

We went to PE with Ms. England's class and played Hotdog Tag- thank you Cameron for teaching us a fun game! After PE we continued working on part 2 of our special project, watched a little bit of our movie and enjoyed a lovely snack thanks to Jonah and Presley!! Short blog but there was lots of love in our classroom today and over the week. The students worked really hard this week on preparing gifts with their hearts :) Have a wonderful weekend everyone!! May 14: Elder Shirley Hill May 16: Elder Shirley Hill May 16: Fun Lunch (Wok Box) May 18: PD Day (no school for students) May 25: Volunteer Tea Here is what we have been up to: On Tuesday we spent our morning finishing our thank you cards for City Hall School :) We also talked about some special gifts for Ms. Shelia and Mayor Nenshi to keep in their offices! We had music - ask me what I have been working on :) We reviewed expectations for Weaselhead and watched a video on intrusive plants! We worked on some computational questions in multiplication, division and also looked into some difference between different shapes. We worked on our story beginnings and then provided feedback on one beginning for 2 peers (two stars and a wish) on our Google Doc using the comments tool :) We spent the whole afternoon with Ms. Ferrari working on a special felting project! We spent Wednesday at Weaselhead! Ask me 3 things I learned, two things I loved and a question I still have :) Today, we started our morning working on our visual journal entries for Weaselhead! We also caught up on a couple of adventure stops for Harry Potter. After recess, we talked about the teaching of Wisdom. Asking what animal represents this teaching and why this is true. Ask me to tell you a few things I learned about that animal today :) Afterwards, we sketched the animal and a background/foreground in our visual journal. We learned that due to the PATs we would have to be flexible with our afternoon. We worked on a fun, special project until 130pm and then spent the last hour of the day in Power Hour :) IMPORTANT DATES

May 14: Elder Shirley Hill May 16: Elder Shirley Hill May 16: Fun Lunch (Wok Box) May 18: PD Day (no school for students) May 25: Volunteer Tea Here are a few things we got up to today: We started the day working on some multiplication and geometry skills on ten monkeys which will be a nice lead into our work with area and perimeter this week :) We reviewed our story beginning strategies and practiced as whole group as a way to start our own story beginnings! We are currently using our character developments and work in our settings to write 3 interesting story beginnings on Google Docs. We have shared those with two partners, selected one of the three story beginnings by highlighting one and asked our peers to provide us with 2 stars and 1 wish. We will continue this work over the week and as we continue with the story writing process! Thank you to Ms. Bezugley for coming into our classroom today to see what we are learning in our writing unit :) After recess and until lunch recess- we celebrated Music Monday with Ms. Morin's father :) What a great experience! After lunch, we had circle and then had a few minutes of DEAR time before watching a short video on invasive plants to get us ready for Weaslehead on Wednesday! In PE- we played dodgeball/capture the chicken! We have been using computers to compete social research on Ukraine and to continue working on our math facts in multiplication. In our sketch books, we completed our Flowers of Ukraine page which will lead into our time with Ms. Ferrari next week! We had a special guest speaker yesterday (Oma Lauf) who was a drafter with different companies where she helped to design many bridges in Germany and Canada. Ask me one interesting thing she shared. Our character development on our antagonists and protagonists are now complete! We started sketching different settings that will be incorporated in our stories! Thank you to Cameron for bringing in a game to share- we changed our plans yesterday to allow for some cooperative games for health. In PE we played capture the chicken/dodgeball yesterday and today we had some time at the park as we missed our am recess and some of our lunch recess. Thanks Khalid for asking. We prepared our gift for Ms. Shirley- thank you to Luke for presenting the gift today and to everyone as they were very respectful during our time with Elder Shirley today! We started our day on computers where we had some time working with columnar multiplication (up to 3 digit by 1 digit) and then moved into some research on Ukraine! We have the same category so we will be able to draw some conclusions around the similarities and differences between the countries we are studying. After recess, we looked at a presentation of some of the different flowers in Ukraine- looking at the symbolism and legends that are attached to different flowers. We each chose a flower to create a page for in our visual journal and that will be the inspiration for our felt art pieces with Ms. Ferrari. After lunch, we had some DEAR time and then started our Tunisian presentations. We thought of some good feedback to provide on the presentations and each had to write down 1-2 facts about the different areas that everyone is studying. This will help us create postcards about Tunisia :) We played capture the chicken in PE and then completed another presentation before the bell rand for home time. Thanks for a great day everyone! To start our day we had our time on 10 monkeys! Then we had a circle for Ms. Very :( We are so sad to see her go but we know any students that gets the chance to have her as their teacher will be VERY lucky. We gave her some of her favorite treats, some gift cards for yummy teas and coffee and a beautiful book with kind messages from everyone :)Thank you so much Ms. Very for being so kind, extending yourself to provide the best for every student and for being an incredible friend and team partner! We wish you all the best as you continue on your journey to having your own classroom. It is Harry Potter day! We had a Harry Potter party to celebrate our time reading the book so far! We colored ties and chose a house we thought we would fit into :) We played pin the scar on Harry! We watched the first hour of the Harry Potter movie and had some yummy Harry Potter themed treats! We have been creating watercolor art pieces for our thank you cards! We have been using the Calgary city line as our inspiration :) We have been working on our 6 room poetry! We worked together to create descriptive short sentences about different aspects of what we noticed (sound, sight, questions, light etc) and from that we are creating beautiful poetry about beaches! We have been working on catch up and working through some feedback in our visual journals! We have drawn Dumbledore, thought about how some of the characters have changed and continued to document the story in our visual journals. We had our first power hour today! Our PE classes have been outside as it has been SO nice outside. We are continuing our work on story beginnings :) Next week we will start our typing/writing! We have been working on multiplication, some of us have moved into division and had chances to look into some geometry games. We have been editing our slides on Tunisia and we will have a chance to present next week! Tomorrow will be Ms. Very's last day :( It has been so amazing having her in our classroom over the past 8 weeks. It will be Very sad to see her go but we know she is ready to be an amazing teacher in her own classroom. <3 IMPORTANT DATES
April 19: Student Led Conferences (evening) April 25: Spring Photos April 26: PoWer Hour begins Homework: Read for at least 20-30 minutes everyday :) If you need to meet with Ms. Parent and have not booked a separate conference- please do so online :) Over the last two days we have been: We have been logging on to 10 monkeys and we completed our Tunisia slides on the computers! Today we learned how to add comments to a document that has been shared with us. We gave and received some feedback on our slides and we were to ask a question that would encourage the group we were working with to complete some additional research. We have been working on adding details to our sketches and entries from City Hall School (titles, dates, labels, thoughts/ideas) and going through our first visual journals to respond to feedback provided :) Some of the feedback required us to complete unfinished work etc. We read a story called Niño after recess. Ask me what I did in music. We cleaned our desks! Wow that took us 45minutes to finish!! Some of us had time to tidy up the student and teacher material bins. In PE we are skipping! We used our designs in our visual journals to start building our bridges today! We should be finished by tomorrow :) Have a great night!! IMPORTANT DATES
April 18: Fun Lunch (Little Caesar) April 19: Student Led Conferences (evening) April 25: Spring Photos April 26: PoWer Hour begins Homework: Read for at least 20-30 minutes everyday :) Forms for Spring Photos went home today! We had a busy day back! We started the day playing multiplication games; some of us wanted to try up to 9x9 even though that is not an expectation of grade three! Then we worked in our visual journals to create a CSI thinking routine that represented our time on Day 3 of City Hall School. We had laptops after recess! We started on 10 monkeys and then most of us finished up our Tunisian research! Tomorrow we will start creating our Google Slides so we can teach the other students about what we have learned :) After lunch, we had some DEAR time and then had a circle! We talked about our science build coming up and looked at the expectations in for our visual journal pages before PE. We did have some time to start working on our visual journal pages for our builds prior to PE. In PE we played a never ending game of dodgeball. Once we came back we completed our visual journal pages (we were documented the materials, our hypothesis, our bridge design and how we will test the materials fairly). Tomorrow we will get to start the building process! Some of us helped Ms. Very with some quotes for our art board! Tomorrow we will finish up with adding details, thoughts and labels to our City Hall School pages! Ms. Parent has a couple of appointments tomorrow so she will not be here :( Ms. Temple will be here to help Ms. Very :) |
